Skype in Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) with webcam support

Reading a comment from one of the readers of this blog, I saw that there are people having trouble to use Skype in Ubuntu 7.10 with the Zaapa webcam that I recently bought.

Currently, Skype has no Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon version available in their download page. There is a version for Feisty Fawn (7.04) that some people report that is working without problems in Gutsy, the same as the Debian version.

Nevertheless, in Medibuntu repositories we have available a newer version with which we won’t have problems, because it is specifically contained in their Gutsy repositories.

A raíz de un comentario de un lector del blog, ví que hay gente teniendo problemas para utilizar Skype en Ubuntu 7.10 con la webcam Zaapa que compré recientemente.

Actualmente, Skype no tiene disponible una versión para Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon en su página de descargas. La versión que tienen es la de Feisty Fawn (7.04) que algunos reportan que funciona sin problemas en Gutsy, al igual que la versión para Debian.

Sin embargo, en los repositorios de Medibuntu disponemos de una versión más actualizada y con la que no tendremos problemas, porque está contenida en los repositorios para Gutsy.

As part of the “multi-services server” that I’m preparing based on Ubuntu Linux 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), I have decided to buy a cheap webcam that allows me to try the possibilities of motion detection in Ubuntu Linux.To accomplish that, I have found a this Zaapa ZA-WACM-VC2P webcam (with night light) for 13€.

Como parte del servidor que estoy preparando basado en Ubuntu Linux 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon), he decidido comprar una webcam que me permita probar las posibilidades de detección de movimientos en Ubuntu Linux.

Para eso, he encontrado una webcam marca Zaapa ZA-WACM-VC2P (con iluminación nocturna) por 13€.
